I saw posts here all day asking me what I wanted to hear from the President last night.
I have an answer for you right now:
I wanted to hear exactly what Rachel Maddow said tonight.
NOT ONE WORD DIFFERENT.
She was magnificent. I cheered her the way I wanted to cheer the President last night.
Last night, as Keith Olbermann tossed the programming to Rachel Maddow last night, he asked her how she liked President Obama's address to the nation from the Oval Office.
She took a gasp of breath and sighed. Hanging her head and her shoulders at the same time.
That was the exact same reaction I had after watching it. There was so much missing from that speech.
So I have to hand it to Rachel, she sat down today and wrote down what she wanted to hear last night from President Obama.
Tonight I got the chance to cheer like I wanted to do last night. The video just came up about two minutes ago and the reviews are already coming in. If I find a transcript, I will update. Promise.
The first one I found?
Quite frankly, it was incredible, and I am not using that word lightly. I will link the video clip here as soon as it is available.
And a Twitter...
I want Rachel Maddow to be real president. Her "fake president" is awesome. 28 minutes ago via web
And just now another one....
Great oil spill oval office speech by fake President "Rachel Maddow"- what Obama should have said
These are just the beginning. If you did not see it folks, I have the link at the top of the diary, and I urge you to please watch and listen to what she said and then you will have your answer to all the questions about what I wanted President Obama to say last night.
Small Update
From Maddow's blog:
We've spent the day jawing about President Obama's speech last night. Some of you agree with Rachel Maddow's take, that it lacked substance and boiled down to a prayer. Others thought we should give Mr. Obama more credit.
Your homework tonight is to read the president's full speech consider what you'd have said if you were President Obama. What speech would you have delivered?
So if you don't like this - What would you have said?
Oh, and her report on BERMS is also must-see, and deserves its own diary. From my unscientific perspective, the administration was very right to deny the right to build those berms - and Rachel shows that tonight. but now they are building them anyway right?
Don't forget to rec the Mothership please.
